PORT ANGELES — Police captured a suspected robber today with the assistance of the new owner of the Chinook Motel and his renovation crew.
Anthony Joshua Freitas, 23, was taken into custody by law enforcement officers from three agencies after officers spotted him hiding between the wheels of an antique tractor parked at 1404 E. Front St., said Brian Smith, deputy chief of the Port Angeles Police Department.
Freitas was chased by the owner of the Fresh Wok, at 1603 E. Front St, to the Chinook Motel, where Balbir Singh said he spotted the chase, saw cash in Freitas’ hands and attempted to detain the younger man by ordering him to sit on the sidewalk.
Freitas briefly obeyed Singh, then ran across Front Street and disappeared between buildings, Singh said.
A team of law enforcement officers from the Port Angeles Police Department, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol captured him a few minutes later, Smith said.
Smith said that Freitas is being investigated for felony robbery charges as well as obstruction charges for providing a false name.
