PORT ANGELES – Capt. Mark J. D’Andrea handed over command of Coast Guard Group/Air Station Port Angeles on Monday to a new commanding officer, Capt. Scott Pollock.
The ceremony, which drew about 150 invited audience members, also recognized D’Andrea, Port Angeles skipper for three years who will become chief of response for the Seattle-based 13th Coast Guard District, with the Meritorious Medal of Service.
Pollock comes to the Port Angeles command – which includes installations in Port Townsend, Neah Bay, LaPush and Bellingham – as the head of the Incident Management Branch of the 17th Coast Guard District in Juneau, Alaska.
But it’s a homecoming for him – he was born and raised in Washington state.
“I feel a little bit like I’m cheating, getting to come back to the area,” he said.
