New outdoor concert series begins tonight

SEQUIM — A fourth evening of weekly free outdoor music on the North Olympic Peninsula begins tonight.

Downhome duo Sandy and Slim, featuring Howly Slim and Sandy Summers, will perform at the first concert in the six-week Friday Summertime Music Outdoors series from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

The concert will take place behind the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., using bleachers and an outdoor stage funded by the Friends of Sequim Library.

Bring a blanket or lawn chairs for additional seating.

Slim has written about 400 songs in the past 30 years, and Summers has played multiple instruments with various duos, trios and quartets.

They will be accompanied by the driving bass of the Raindance Kid.

The five other Friday night concerts in the series:

■ Scott Sullivan (indie-rock), July 26.

■ Olympic Express Big Band (big band swing, standards, Dixieland, rock), Aug. 2.

■ Erin Hennessey, David Rivers and Friends (guitar and Irish fiddle), Aug. 9.

■ Old Sidekicks (country and bluegrass), Aug. 16.

■ Witherow and Fish & Bird (indie-folk), Aug. 23.

Other outdoor concerts

This new concert series joins Tuesday’s Music in the Park in Sequim, Wednesday’s Concerts on the Pier in Port Angeles and Thursday’s Concert on the Dock in Port Townsend.

Bring a picnic dinner or partake of food vendors at these family-friendly events.

Blankets and warm clothing may be in order since nights can be cool.
