Joyce Mininger will move from Stevens Middle to helm Jefferson Elementary in Port Angeles.

PORT ANGELES — Stevens Middle School Assistant Principal Joyce Mininger has been named principal at Jefferson Elementary for the 2012-13 school year.

The announcement was made last week by Superintendent Jane Pryne, who is overseeing a major shift of administrators in the wake of the announced departure of Roosevelt Elementary School Principal Doug Hayman.

Hayman will depart the district in July to take a position in Alaska.

Michelle Olsen, currently principal of Jefferson Elementary School, will become principal at Roosevelt

Mininger has served as assistant principal at Stevens Middle School since August 2010.

Pryne said the district searched among current staff members to fill the empty positions.

“We are very pleased a member of our current administrative team can step in to this role,” she said.

“Michelle Olsen and her team have an excellent program in place, and with Joyce’s leadership and enthusiasm, Jefferson has an opportunity to continue the excellent work that is taking place” at the elementary school, she said.

Before coming to Port Angeles, Mininger was a special-education teacher at Issaquah Middle School in Issaquah, where she completed her administrative internship.

She taught language arts in Minnesota, and was an inclusion special education teacher in New York City, where she designed, implemented and assessed humanities curriculums to meet the needs of individual students, according to the district.

Mininger received her principal teaching certification from Seattle Pacific University, a master’s degree in social work from Columbia University and a master’s in education from Bank Street College, both of which are in New York City.

She received her bachelor’s in elementary education from Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland.
