Revised government maps of earthquake faults that could cause serious damage on the North Olympic Peninsula won’t change county emergency management plans.
Emergency management directors in both Clallam and Jefferson counties said Thursday that new U.S. Geological Survey seismic hazard maps released this week only highlight the need to be prepared for possible disaster.
“It does not change much, because we already know we’re in earthquake country, and everybody should understand that,” said Clallam County Emergency Management Director Bob Martin.
“We’re in the same earthquake category as southern California.”
Jefferson County Emergency Services Director Bob Hamlin said the new information, ” just adds to the inventory of worries.”
