PORT ANGELES — Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue has hired Firefighter/Paramedic Erik Sundin and Firefighter/EMT Elizabeth Hagaman.
Sundin has 25 years of fire service experience, is certified as a Fire Officer 1, Fire Instructor 2 and Inspector 1 and has worked as a volunteer with the department since 2019.
Hagaman, a nursing student at Peninsula College, has worked with the department since 2017 and was named the 2019 Clallam 2 Fire Rescue EMT of the year.
According to a press release, the pair was selected from a pool of well-qualified candidates through a testing and evaluation process in December.
The new hires are funded by the levy lid lift approved by voters in August and are part of the department’s plan to begin limited staffing at Fire Station 22.
Staffing the station, located on Power Plant Road, should reduce response time on the west side of the district while they are on duty.
The department has 40 volunteers and eight full-time firefighter/paramedics/EMTs and responds to, on average, 1,700 emergency calls each year.
