PORT ANGELES — An Avalanche Awareness Class is scheduled for
6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The free class will be at the Olympic National Park Visitor Center, 3002 Mount Angeles Road, Port Angeles.
Matt Schonwald, professional observer at the Northwest Avalanche Center, will present information on avalanche safety and winter recreation.

Night to Shine
PORT ANGELES — Registration is open now for the third annual Night to Shine, scheduled for Feb. 8.
The free community prom is for people with special needs ages 14 and older, along with their guests.
It will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
It is one of more than 500 such events being held simultaneously in cities around the world, sponsored globally by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Camp Beausite will be providing transportation for guests who need it.
Volunteer and guest registration forms are available at clallamnighttoshine.org.
Planners also are recruiting more than 200 volunteers to help with everything from registration, decorating, door greeters, buddies for each of the expected 150 guests that evening, food servers and parking attendants.
All volunteers will be asked to complete a background check form and attend one of several brief orientation sessions set for January.
Local sponsors are also invited to help.
Night to Shine sponsors include Hillcrest Baptist Church, Clallam Mosaic, Camp Beausite, The Crossing Church and Wilderness Escapes.
Extravaganza has drawing winner
PORT ANGELES — Beth Witters of Port Angeles is the winner of the Holiday Extravaganza drawing.
The Holiday Extravaganza event was held in local businesses from Nov. 9 through Nov. 11.
Witters’ winning ticket was drawn Nov. 26 by Patty Meyers of Sequim.
Witters won $2,000 of goods and services donated by local businesses.
Witters is the owner of Cabled Fiber & Yarn, 125 W. First St.
OMC pharmacy staffers recognized for service
PORT ANGELES — Pharmacy buyers Chelsie Botero and Melissa Sheldon were recently recognized at an Olympic Medical Center board of commissioners meeting.
“Chelsie has kept the hospital and OMC clinics supplied with medications during an extended period of extremely challenging drug shortages,” said Lorraine Wall, chief nursing officer and hospital chief operating officer, in a press release.
Sheldon oversees the 340B contract pharmacy arrangements and compliance.
The 340B Drug Discount Program is a federal program that requires drug manufacturers to provide outpatient drugs to eligible health care organizations, such as OMC, at reduced prices.
