NEWS BRIEFS: Forks church to hold Longest Night Service this evening . . . and other items

FORKS — Congregational Church, 280 S. Spartan Ave., will hold its Longest Night Service at 6 p.m. today.

Pastor Tom Lafrenz of Church of the Nazarene, Andy Pursley of Assembly of God and Pastor Warren Johnson of Congregational Church will co-officiate.

Lighting candles in remembrance will be part of the service, with special music by Ryan Watson and Juanita Weissenfels

This is a nondenominational/ecumenical event.

The public is welcome.

Flower show

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Garden Club members will hold their meeting and flower show at First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., this Monday.

The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. with a coffee social and is open to interested individuals.

The flower show features flower arrangements and design, horticultural exhibits, crafts, photographs and more.

It is open to the public from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This month’s meeting features a presentation by Jessica Hernandez, Port Angeles Food Bank director, and a donation of food items to the food bank.

The club also will celebrate Gertie Rohrbach’s 100th birthday and host a holiday potluck.

Senior nutrition

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Senior Nutrition Site dinners will be served at 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Port Angeles Senior & Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

A suggested donation is $5 for those who are 60 or older.

People younger than 60 can attend for $8.

Reservations should be made 24 hours in advance to 360-457-8921.

Menus are subject to change.

■ Tuesday: Fruit, taco salad, tres leche cake and a surprise.

■ Wednesday: Spring greens, beet salad, pot roast with carrots and potatoes, asparagus and Alaska bake.

■ Thursday and Friday: Closed for the Christmas holiday.

Scholarship given

SEQUIM — Olympic Driftwood Sculptures, a local nonprofit organization, recently awarded $1,000 to David Ngiem of Port Townsend High School as an art scholarship.

The funds for the scholarships originate through fundraisers, making art forms with driftwood, the sale of Christmas wreaths made by the fundraising committee and donations received at exhibits throughout the year.

The recipient of the scholarship is selected and the award is made at a membership meeting.
