NEWS BRIEFS: Grief support groups set in Port Angeles … and other items

Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County announced its schedule for a series of Sequim and Port Angeles support groups for 2018.

The groups are free and require preregistration, as well as a phone interview. To schedule a phone interview, call hospice’s office at 360-452-1511.

The first “Life After Loss” group starts Tuesday, Jan. 30, and will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays until March 22 at Hospice House, 810 S. Albert St., Port Angeles.

The other two Port Angeles groups will begin May 16, meeting Wednesday evenings, and Sept. 11, meeting Tuesday afternoons.

All three groups will run for eight consecutive weeks.

Specific times haven’t been decided upon for the May and September meetings, event organizers said.

The Sequim groups will be Mondays beginning March 12, Aug. 6 and Oct. 22.

Each group will meet for five consecutive Mondays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Group facilitators will be Midge James for Port Angeles and Debby Smith for Sequim.

The support groups aim to offer a safe, peaceful, supportive environment where participants can share their feelings and experiences, gain a clearer understanding of the grieving process, connect with others who are grieving and develop coping strategies and skills for managing the emotional pain of loss, according to the release.

Volunteer Hospice is celebrating its 40th year of providing no-charge hospice services to patients and their families.

For more information regarding the Port Angeles groups, contact James at 360-797-1006 or midgejames1@gmail.com.
