PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Healthcare’s Family Medicine Clinic is offering a one-day clinic to provide human papillomavirus infection vaccinations for children ages 11 to 18 on Wednesday.
The drop-in HPV vaccinations will be available at the clinic, 1010 Sheridan St., Suite 101, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Parents-guardians will need to sign a consent for children between the ages of 11 to 13 years old. Those older than 14 can sign their own consent.
HPV vaccine is cancer prevention for boys and girls.
Just two shots 12 months apart between the ages of 11 to 15 provide safe and lasting protection against infections that cause HPV cancer, Jefferson Healthcare said in a news release.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend vaccinating both boys and girls, according to a news release.
HPV is a very common virus; nearly 80 million people — about one in four — are currently infected in the United States, according to the release.
