PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Library System is seeking registrants for its Thursday, April 26 2018 Clallam County PoetrySLAM event.

Sixth-grade poets and thespians have until 5 p.m. Friday, March 30 to register for the competition.

All students interested in participating must fill out an official entry form, and attach a copy of the poem they wish to read or recite. Forms can be accessed by visiting www.nols.org, or at any NOLS branch.

Students can enter by participating in a classroom elimination round held at their school.

For homeschool students, or those whose classroom is not conducting elimination rounds, entry can be arranged by emailing NOLS’ youth services library Jennifer Knight at jknight@nols.org.

Prizes include a Samsung Galaxy tablet and gift certificates to local bookstores.

Students will compete by reading an original work or reciting a published poem.

For more information, call 360-417-8500 ext. 7705, or email youth@nols.org.

Container gardens

The Sequim and Port Angeles Libraries will hold CreativiTea events on Wednesday and Thursday, April 4 and 5, respectively.

Both classes are set to begin at 6 p.m. at the libraries in Sequim at 630 N. Sequim Ave.; and Port Angeles, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Attendees can sip tea while designing and planting a container garden with library and Washington State University Extension staff.

Extension staff will provide information about how to manage waste reduction with composting, propagate house plants, plant seeds, and create new containers from items around the house.

Ways to reuse old books with simple paper crafts will also be explored.

These workshops are appropriate for all ages, though youth should be accompanied by an adult, event organizers said.

All supplies and hot tea is provided.

For more information, call 360-417-8500, email discover@nols.org, or visit www.nols.org.
