NEWS BRIEFS: Port Angeles caregiver conference’s registration deadline extended to today … and other items

PORT ANGELES — The Caregivers Coalition has extended the deadline to register for its 10th annual “Building Your Caregiver Tool Box” conference to today.

The panel will take place at the Port Angeles Senior & Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St., from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.

Park View Villas Retirement and Assisted Living will provide sack lunches.

The event is sponsored by the Port Angeles senior center and the Olympic Area Agency on Aging.

Open house

PORT ANGELES — The Dzogchen Sangha will hold an open house at the Dzogchen Dharma Center, 117-C E. First St., from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The entrance can be accessed via stairs from the parking lot near the back entrance to Michael’s Seafood & Steakhouse.

The event is free and open to the public, though donations are accepted.

Unity service Sunday

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics, 2917 E. Myrtle St., will host guest speaker the Rev. Donna Little at its 10:30 a.m. Sunday service.

Her lesson is titled “The View from Here.”

Little is a resident of Sequim and is a licensed and ordained Unity minister.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Child care is available during the service.

New interim pastor

PORT ANGELES — Wendy Taylor has begun her term as interim pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Port Angeles.

Her term could extend up to a year. She replaces the Rev. Ted Mattie, who was pastor for 37 years and has since retired.

Taylor has served as pastor in three other churches in the Pacific Northwest. She was also director of Caring Ministries at First Presbyterian Church of Santa Rosa Californian for eight years.

She received her Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., in 2007.

Taylor has two grown sons.

The Transitional Ministry Team has now begun the search for a permanent pastor for the church at 139 W. Eighth St.
