NEWS BRIEFS — Port Angeles schools plan Thursday meeting on updates . . . and other items

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School Board will hear an update on the planned replacement of Port Angeles High School when it meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The board will meet in the Hamilton Elementary School library, 1822 W. Seventh St.

Kelly Pearson, director of finance and operations, will provide the update on plans for the high school. The board plans to place a bond measure on the February special election ballot to build a new school.

The amount has not been decided. Board members have said it would be between $80 million and $100 million.

The board also will hear a report on student achievement.

Most students previewed a new exam — the Smarter Balanced Assessment — in spring 2014 instead of the Measure of Student Progress exam.

Assistant Superintendent Gerald Gabbard will explain the 2014 exam results along with the results from high school end-of-course exams at Port Angeles and Lincoln high schools.

Hamilton Elementary will be spotlighted in a school activities report.

Crescent schools

JOYCE — The Crescent School Board will hear reports on lockdown drills, graduation requirements and Halloween plans when it meets at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The board will meet in the Crescent School library, 50350 state Highway 112.
