SEQUIM –– Citizens for Sequim Schools will give a presentation about the school district’s upcoming $154 million facilities bond ballot measure at 6 p.m. today.
The meeting will be at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road.
The district is asking voters on the April ballot to approve a $154 million bond measure to build a new elementary school, extensively renovate and remodel the high school and two existing elementary schools, and build a new athletic complex.
If approved, the bonds would add approximately $1.74 per $1,000 of assessed value to the property tax bills of landowners in the district, which has a total assessed property value of $3.7 billion.
Sequim’s current tax rate is $2.29 per $1,000.
Day of Prayer
The World Day of Prayer will be marked by several services on the North Olympic Peninsula today.
All begin at noon.
In Sequim, a service is set at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave.
In Port Angeles, a service will be at First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St.
The Forks service will be at The Caring Place, 481 W. E St.
The World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of Christian women from 170 countries who observe a common day of prayer on the first Friday in March each year.
The different countries take turns writing the World Day of Prayer worship service.
The 2014 worship service was written by the women of Egypt using the theme “Streams in the Desert.”
Spring forward
North Olympic Peninsula residents are reminded to “spring forward” and change their clocks Sunday.
Fire officials also suggest using the date to change the batteries in all smoke alarms.
If they have been recently changed, conduct a monthly test of smoke alarms, firefighters said.
Smoke alarm batteries should be changed at least once a year, unless they are 10-year lithium batteries, or when the alarm chirps.
