SEQUIM — School Board members may attend a conference with state Auditor Abigail Berg in Sequim at 1 p.m. today.
Berg will discuss the timing and cost of an audit of the Sequim School District during the conference in the superintendent’s office at 503 N. Sequim Ave.
She also will hear areas of concern and suggestions about what to address in the audit.
A quorum of the School Board may attend and participate in discussion. No action is to be taken.
The superintendent’s office said Berg is conducting a routine audit.
Student fundraiser
PORT ANGELES — Jefferson Elementary School students will “take over” Smugglers Landing restaurant in The Landing mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave., today from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to earn funds to support student enrichment activities.
Smugglers Landing will donate half its profits from money earned during those two hours to the Jefferson Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization.
Jefferson leadership students and staff will take orders and bus tables.

Blood drive on tap in Sequim today
SEQUIM — A blood drive will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple St., from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today.
The drive will close between 4:15 p.m. and 5 p.m. for a break.
The event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus in conjunction with the Puget Sound Blood Center.

State boating card class set this weekend
SEQUIM — A state mandatory boating card class will be held at Rainbow’s End RV Park, 261831 U.S. Highway 101, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The cost is $41.
The state requires operators younger than 60 of boats greater than 14 horsepower to have a state-issued proficiency card.
Oregon and Canada have no age exemption.
Completion of this two-day course provides students with a certificate that meets card educational requirement.
The course covers basic power and sailboat types, operation, communications afloat, regulations, marine law, safety and navigation, with an emphasis on safety.
Course materials include 250-page illustrated text, a presentation CD and digital navigation software.
The course is presented by the North Olympic branch of the U.S. Power Squadron, a nonprofit marine education organization founded in 1924.

Plant exchange Saturday
PORT TOWNSEND — The third annual Plant and Seed Exchange will be held at the Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The event is organized by Ashley Kehl and his partner, Jennimae Hillyard, and will be held outdoors under canopies and in the Quimper Grange hall.
Bring extra seeds, plant divisions, spare potted plants, bare roots, bulbs and whatever else needs relocating.
Books will be available to help answer plant and seed questions.

Poet symposium
PORT TOWNSEND — Centrum will present poet and author Joseph Stroud in residence for a poetry symposium at 223 Battery Way.
Stroud will present a free public reading of his work at Fort Worden State Park, Building 262, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Stroud is the author of five books of poetry. His work has earned a Pushcart Prize, and in 2006, he was selected by the Poet Laureate of the United States for a Witter Bynner Fellowship in Poetry from the Library of Congress.
His most recent book, Of This World, received the San Francisco Poetry Center Book of the Year Award and was a finalist for the PEN Literary Award USA, the Commonwealth California Book of the Year and the Northern California Book of the Year.
The poetry symposium, “(Re)Voicing the Poem,” is open to the public with a registration fee of $375.
The symposium is April 10-13.
Stroud will work with symposia registrants to find their inner voice as they craft original works.

In class, participants will make personal ideas “come alive” with fiber.

Bunny Breakfast
SEQUIM — The Boys & Girls Club CCK Unit will host a Bunny Breakfast at 400 W. Fir St. from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The cost is $5 per person, and children younger than 5 are admitted free.
Youngsters can eat a pancake breakfast while visiting with the Easter Bunny.
There will be photo opportunities, an egg hunt, face painting, Easter basket raffles and performances by club kids.

SEQUIM — The Friends of Sequim Library will hold their monthly book sale at the Friends building behind the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Items of special interest include 400 DVDs, a large selection of craft instruction books and older out-of-print collectible books.
There are also 350 back issues of various woodworking magazines.
All magazines are free.

Tree giveaway set
PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Timber Action Committee will host its annual “tree giveaway” in the Green Crow parking lot, 727 E. Eighth St., from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.
There will be a combinations of Douglas firs, cedars, spruces and hemlocks that will be given away for free.
These are not ornamental trees and will grow very large. They need not be planted immediately.
There may be a limited quantity of Christmas tree stock available for sale, with proceeds going to the committee’s scholarship fund.
Immigration talk
CHIMACUM — Daughters of Norway Thea Foss Lodge No. 45 will hear and participate in “The Scandinavian Immigrant Experience,” presented by Susan Remmele at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road.
The event is Sunday at 1 p.m. and is open to the public.
Remmele begins with the first surge in the 1840s, when the vehicle was a sailing schooner, the Restauration ship out of Stavanger, Norway.
As years passed with steam travel, the welcoming port was Ellis Island in New York. Sometimes it was called the “Isle of Dreams,” or worse, “The Isle of Tears.”
Remmele will choose and direct members to participate in the presentation.

PORT TOWNSEND — Salsa Night at Manresa Castle, 651 Cleveland St., will take place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
Dancing is in the banquet room at the hotel entrance farthest from hospital.

A 7 p.m. lesson will be beginning merengue, followed by an intermediate merengue lesson from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., both taught by Tom Fairhall and Jean Bettanny.
The DJ dance at 8 p.m. will be a Latin mix of salsa, samba, rumba, cha cha, bachata and merengue.

Charter review
PORT ANGELES — The League of Women Voters of Clallam County hopes to stir interest in running for the Clallam County Charter Commission during a public forum from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday.
The meeting will be in the Raymond Carver Room of the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.
Elections for the Charter Review Commission will be held in November. Fifteen members are elected — five from each county commission district — every eight years to review the charter and propose amendments.
Candidates will file for the charter review commission positions May 12-16.
The Monday forum will feature a panel discussion on Clallam County’s home-rule charter, the charter review process and how to run for the commission.
Panelists will be Clallam County Commissioner Mike Doherty, Clallam County Auditor Patty Rosand and former Charter Review Commissioners Norma Turner and Mickie Vail.
Clallam County is one of six counties in the state with a charter form of government.
Adopted by voters in 1976, Clallam’s home-rule charter is a “constitution” for county government and allows it to change requirements for county operations beyond those required by the state.
Any changes, however, must comply with state law.
‘Frybread’ film
BLYN — The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Library will present Native Film Night, featuring “More Than Frybread,” an Alex Holt Hamilton film, in Red Cedar Hall on the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Campus, 1033 Old Blyn Highway.
The film is set Thursday, April 17, with dinner at 5:30 p.m. and the movie to follow.
Note: The director had to cancel his trip, so all director-related activities (filmmaking workshop, discussion, auditions) have been canceled.
