NEWS BRIEFS: Social-change theater classes start Tuesday in Port Townsend . . . and other items

PORT TOWNSEND — The Poetic Justice Theatre Ensemble, part of Port Townsend’s Mandala Center for Change, will offer a free five-week class in social-change theater techniques starting this Tuesday.

Facilitated by Poetic Justice founder Marc Weinblatt and trainer Zhaleh Almaee Weinblatt, the class will introduce people to interactive theater games and exercises in five Tuesday sessions, each from 3:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at the ensemble’s uptown location, 498 35th St.

This series also will serve as an informal audition process for anyone interested in joining the Poetic Justice Theatre Ensemble for the 2015-16 season.

Participants are asked to commit to the full five weeks, with meetings Tuesdays through Nov. 10.

Women’s forum

PORT ANGELES — Counselor and relationship coach Midge James will host a forum about women’s relationships every Sunday starting today at Poser Yoga, 128 E. Front St.

Admission is free, and all women — married and single — are welcome in this supportive discussion group from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Norway sons host speaker this Monday

PORT ANGELES — The Sons of Norway will meet at the lodge, 131 W. Fifth St., at 7 p.m. Monday.

Sons of Norway member Steve Obrebski will present “From Hermit to King.”

Obrebski, who has taught marine biology, ecology and invertebrate evolution at Columbia, Stoney Brook and the University of Chicago, tells the group about crabs.

Refreshments will be served, followed by a short business meeting.

Senior nutrition

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Senior Nutrition Site dinners will be served at 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Port Angeles Senior & Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

A suggested donation is $5 for those who are 60 or older.

People younger than 60 can attend for $8.

Reservations should be made 24 hours in advance to 360-457-8921.

Menus are subject to change.

■ Tuesday: Carrot salad, bratwurst on a bed of cabbage, Harvard beets, warm pretzel and cherry cobbler.

■ Wednesday: Green salad, beef stew, corn, biscuits and ambrosia salad.

■ Thursday: Bed of greens with pickled beets, chicken veggie pizza and pineapple.

■ Friday: Green salad, lemon dill fish, potatoes au gratin, mixed veggies and banana pudding.

Student on dean’s

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Kaitlin Fairchild of Port Angeles has been named to the dean’s list at Pacific University for the spring semester.

Fairchild is among 378 undergraduate students at Pacific University to achieve this high academic honor.

To qualify, a student must achieve a term grade-point average of at least 3.7 on a 4.0 scale and complete 12 or more graded hours.

Forks immunizations

FORKS — Clallam County Health and Human Services’ Public Health Section will conduct immunization clinics at 140 C St. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.

The following vaccinations for children will be available: DTap, HPV, Hep A, Hep B, MMR, MMRV, Varicella, Meningococcal, Tdap and children’s influenza as available.

Adult vaccinations to be offered are Hep A, Hep B, HepA/HepB (Twinrix), MMR and Tdap.

Additional immunization clinics are scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.

Medicaid insurance can be billed.

For all other insurances, clients will be given a receipt to submit for reimbursement.

People wanting a vaccination at the Oct. 15 clinic are asked to call 360-374-3121 to make appointments.

Walk-ins will be served but might have to wait until those with appointments are served.
