PORT ANGELES — U.S. Highway 101 traffic will be switched onto the new southern lanes between Port Angeles and Sequim sometime today, state Department of Transportation officials said.

The northern lanes will be closed to allow crews to put down a layer of asphalt.

Crews also will build new median access points along the 3.5-mile corridor between Kitchen-Dick and Shore roads.

Today’s switch is the latest in a series of traffic alterations needed for the $27.1 million construction project to widen the highway two lanes in both directions between Port Angeles and Sequim.

Man in jail after BB gun incident in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man remained in the Clallam County jail Tuesday after he waved a “realistic-looking” BB gun under the Elwha River Road bridge, Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Keegan said.

Edward Horner, 57, was booked Monday for investigation of unlawfully displaying a weapon capable of producing bodily harm in a manner that warrants alarm for the safety of other people and an outstanding warrant, Keegan said.

Bail is set at $1,126.

Deputies and a Lower Elwha tribal police officer found Horner in possession of the BB gun in a shoulder holster.

He was reportedly yelling and waving the gun to passers-by on Crown Z Water Road at about 2 p.m., Keegan said.

Due to his level of intoxication, Horner was cleared for incarceration at the Olympic Medical Center emergency room prior to being booked into jail, Keegan said.

Artist league meet

PORT LUDLOW — The general meeting of the Port Ludlow Artists’ League will be held at the Beach Club, 121 Marina View Drive, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today.

Caryl Breyer Fallert-Gentry is the guest speaker and demonstrator. She is internationally recognized for her award-winning fine-art quilts, which have appeared in hundreds of national and international exhibitions, collections and publications.

Fallert-Gentry’s honors include 100 Best Quilts of the 20th Century, Silver Star Lifetime Achievement Award and selection as one of the 30 most influential quiltmakers in the world.

She has lectured and taught in 11 countries and continues to share her knowledge through her publications and her website, www.bryerpatch.com.
