NEWS IN BRIEF — Doo-wop harmony in Port Ludlow next Friday . . . and other briefs

PORT LUDLOW — The Alley Cats will soon saunter into town for an evening of 1950s and ’60s doo-wop harmony.

The Port Ludlow Arts Council is presenting this concert next Friday, March 7, at the Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Place, with tickets at $24.

These singers got their start in 1987 at Disneyland as part of the Blast to the Past salute to the ’50s.

These days, they add a comic and contemporary touch to their songs.

For reservations and details about the Alley Cats show — and to hear their music — see www.portludlowartscouncil.com or phone the Bay Club at 360-437-2208.

PT students to perform kingly show

PORT TOWNSEND — Near the Scottish Lowlands just after the end of the Roman empire, the story of King Arthur took place — and it will come alive again in the hands of nearly 30 young actors next weekend.

“Arthur’s Stone, Merlin’s Fire: The Making of a King,” starring students from kindergarten through 12th grade, will open Friday, March 7, and run through Sunday, March 16, in the gym at Mountain View Commons, 1925 Blaine St.

Admission is pay-what-you-can at the door, with a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children, while no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

“Arthur’s Stone” is appropriate for all ages, though some of the stage combat scenes may be too intense for very young children, said codirector Marc Weinblatt.

The OCEAN (Opportunity, Community, Experience, Academics, Navigation) independent study program is staging the play, with six performances: at 7 p.m. March 7- 8, 14-15; and at 2 p.m. March 9 and 16.

For more details about the show and the OCEAN program, phone 360-344-3435.
