PORT ANGELES — In response to a slumping economy, Nippon Paper Industries USA will extend its regular maintenance outage from five days to 16 days.
The Port Angeles paper mill will be closed from April 27 to May 12.
More than half of the 115 mill operators will be out of work during the closure.
“The economic slowdown has negatively affected the uncoated mechanical grade market and the shutdown is necessary to balance production with inventory,” resident mill manager Harold Norlund announced on Wednesday.
