FRESHWATER BAY — The cause of a fire that reduced a three-story house to ashes Sunday afternoon is still under investigation.
No one was hurt in the blaze that leveled the house on the 1700 block of Freshwater Bay Road, but it has left a family of four without a home temporarily.
But for Mark Thomas, who was out of state on business when he heard that his house was burning, the fire never touched what mattered most.
His wife, Judy Thomas, and their children Jacob, 11, and Olivia, 8, were not at home when the fire started.
The house, his boat– they can be replaced.
“Lives cannot be replaced,” Mark Thomas said Tuesday.
“Just knowing what your priorities are . . . love of God, or love of stuff.”
He said he has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from friends, family, church members and strangers.
“It has really touched my heart,” he said.
