SEQUIM — No charges will be filed in connection with an incident in which a mastiff-pit bull terrier dog was shot and later died after it jumped a fence and attacked a neighbor’s black Labrador retriever, seriously injuring it.
Sequim Police Officer Maris Turner said the mastiff-pit bull mix was owned by Holly Pritchett in the 500 block of East Fir Street.
The animal was shot and seriously wounded by a neighbor when it attacked his dog at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday and could not be separated from the neighbor’s Lab.
“The dog was shot, taken to a vet and died the next day,” according to Turner.
The police spokeswoman said it is not illegal to shoot another attacking dog on your own property when all else fails in separating two dogs in a fight.
“Efforts were made by both the victim and dog owner to get them separated, and they were unable to,” Turner said.
