No leads reported in kidnapping case

CHIMACUM — Sheriff’s deputies had developed no solid leads by the weekend about a man a 16-year-old girl said kidnapped her at gunpoint south of Chimacum on Wednesday afternoon and forced her to drive for about 30 minutes to Dabob Post Office Road.

“We don’t have a lot to go on right now,” said Jefferson County Sheriff Tony Hernandez on Friday.

“We are hoping to get more information from the community if anyone sees this person at large.”

Emergency dispatchers had received no updates on the case as of Saturday afternoon, and calls to investigators Saturday were not returned.

The girl, who was not hurt, described the kidnapper as a white man of unknown age, standing about 5 feet, 10 inches tall with dark eyebrows.

She told deputies she couldn’t see most of his face because of a green-and-blue bandana that covered his face from underneath the eyes down.

She said he was wearing a black beanie, a black hooded sweatshirt or hooded long-sleeved T-shirt and dark-colored pants that could have been blue jeans.

Hernandez said the girl’s vehicle had been inspected for forensic evidence, and DNA samples from the car have been taken and sent to a lab.

The girl, who was not identified because she was a minor, stopped on Center Road about 7 miles south of Chimacum at around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday when she saw a man she thought was injured, having what looked like a bloody bandage around one leg, deputies said.

The man pointed a semi-automatic pistol at her and ordered her to let him in the vehicle, then told her where to drive, Chief Criminal Deputy Joe Nole has said.

When they stopped, the man ordered her out of the car and rummaged through her purse, though he took nothing, authorities said.

He ran into the woods at the sound of a vehicle, while she fled in a different direction, ending up on Coyle Road, where a woman motorist stopped and called 9-1-1, Nole said.

Nole said there were no other reported crimes in the area that could be connected to the kidnapper.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nole or Detective Ryan Menday at 360-385-3831.
