SEQUIM – The plan to buy Bell Creek Plaza and put a new City Hall in it was “a fun ride,” City Manager Bill Elliott said, though late last week he hit a legal brick wall.
On Aug.10, the city of Sequim offered Union Community LLC of Mill Creek $11 million for the 150,000-square-foot shopping center at 990 E. Washington St.
The city’s new municipal building would, Elliott hoped, occupy the large storefront next door to Staples. And since Sequim would become the landlord to other plaza tenants, it could collect lease payments to help it pay off the purchase.
Monday night in a closed-door executive session, Elliott broke bad news to the City Council.
“We were not able to put together the deal,” he said.
