BRINNON — No one was injured in a car fire in Brinnon this week, though the car was destroyed, according to the Brinnon Fire Department.
An unidentified man and his daughter were traveling north from Portland, Ore., on their way to Victoria on Wednesday when their cab filled with smoke from the heater vents, said Chief Patrick Nicholson.
They stopped the car and got out prior to the vehicle becoming fully involved, Nicholson said.
Vehicle engulfed
Firefighters dispatched at 3:43 p.m. found the car engulfed in flames on U.S. Highway 101 near Milepost 311.
Both directions of the highway were temporarily blocked, Nicholson said.
“Involvement of the fuel tank made the fire difficult to control and took time to extinguish,” Nicholson said.
Firefighters had controlled the blaze by 4:19 p.m.
A power pole nearby also caught fire, and the Mason Pubic Utility District is conducting repairs, Nicholson said.
