NORDLAND — One could almost hear the collective teeth-chattering shivers of about 70 people after they jumped into Mystery Bay on Wednesday.
Nordland General Store Polar Bear Dip organizer Tom Rose said more than 80 people signed up to take the plunge at noon on New Year’s Day.
But whether or not all those people jumped in is the mystery on Mystery Bay.
“We check the list — go get the people that didn’t jump and throw them in,” he joked after dozens of people dived into the chilly water.
For nine years, Nordland General Store has organized the event, which has become a Jefferson County tradition, he said.
