PORT TOWNSEND – New Year’s baby Ian Eisenman – measuring 21 inches long and weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces – is the first baby born at a Jefferson County hospital in 2008.
He entered the world at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at Jefferson Healthcare hospital.
“If feels pretty good,” said the smiling new mother, Megan Perry, on Wednesday.
“I’m glad it’s over for her,” said John Eisenman, the baby’s father.
The new parents live in Port Ludlow and are seniors at Chimacum High School.
The mother is the daughter of Karl and Melinie Perry of Port Ludlow.
Eisenman’s parents are Lloyd and Sandy Eisenman of Port Ludlow.
Both said they were excited to be new parents.
Karl Perry said family practice obstetrician Todd Carson, the Perry family’s doctor who has treated five generations, was the birth doctor.
“Megan’s due date was Christmas Day and (the doctor) was hoping he would be born then because he was on vacation a week prior to that,” Karl Perry said.
Anna Wallin, who was the labor nurse on duty for Ian’s birth, said she was grateful to the many Port Townsend-area businesses that donated items for a gift basket for the first baby of 2008.
The basket includes clothes, a hat and blanket for outdoors, lotions, gift certificates and other items.
The gift will be given to Ian and his parents before they leave the hospital today.
“This was very exciting for all of us,” Wallin said.
In 2007, 104 babies were born at the hospital.
