PORT ANGELES — An anonymous donor who loaned the Nor’wester Rotary Club $50,000 to help with its short-term cash flow during construction of the new Port Angeles Skate Park at Erickson Playfield is facing a Dec. 31 deadline to pay back the loan.
And the Nor’wester Rotary Club is seeking donations to pay off that loan, as well as the balance still owed on the skate park’s construction, said club member Steve Zenovic.
“It’s a great time of year to donate if you want to write it off,” he said.
Zenovic declined to identify the anonymous donor or specify the type of loan that needs to be repaid.
Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 176, Port Angeles, WA 98362, or dropped off at Zenovic and Associates, 519 S. Peabody St.
Tax-deductible donations go to the club’s foundation, which is a federally recognized nonprofit organization, Zenovic said.
The donations will be recognized on a kiosk to be built at the skate park this summer, he said.
The world-class skate park at Second and Race streets opened in early September.
The Nor’wester Rotary Club built the skate park for $300,000 — $200,000 in cash and $100,000 in in-kind donations.
Earlier this month, the Rotary Club asked people who had pledged donations to the skate park effort to send in their money as soon as possible because the club had $30,000 in bills to pay.
Zenovic said he would have a better idea of the donor’s loan situation on Monday or Tuesday.
But donations have been “pretty good” during the last month, he said.
“People have said they would send something in fairly quickly,” Zenovic said.
“We’re getting money coming in to cover our costs, now it’s just this loan.”
