KENNEWICK —Five players scored in double figures as the Peninsula College women opened the Northwest Athletic Conference basketball tournament with an 81-60 win over Portland.
Despite having only seven players, the pesky Panther hung around until the Pirates finally pulled away in the final 10 minutes.
Gabi Fenumiai led the Pirates with 22 points and 17 boards. Zhara Laster also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 points, and Cierra Moss came close to a triple-double with 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
Imani Smith finished with 17 points and Madison Pilster added 14 in the win.
The Pirates will play the winner between Highline and Wenatchee Valley on Sunday at 6 p.m.
