PORT ANGELES – The Port Angeles City Council recognized Port Angeles police officer Daniel G. Morse, Tuesday night as he was given the department’s Life Saving Medal.
Morse, 28, a three-year veteran with the Port Angeles Police Department, saved the life of a 16-year old girl who shot herself in the chest with a handgun Jan. 9.
That evening, he answered an emergency call for help for a gunshot victim at Crown Park on the 2000 block of W. Fourth Street.
The night was wet and windy, one of the stormiest that Morse could remember, he said Tuesday.
He administered first aid, trying to stop the bleeding while emergency crews from the Port Angeles Fire Department were on their way.
Morse stayed with the girl during the ambulance ride.
“They needed an extra set of hands,” Morse said.
Not only did Morse stop the bleeding, but he kept her calm and conscious in the park, according to the proclamation read by Port Angeles Mayor Karen Rogers.
