PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend School Board appointed Nathanael O’Hara on Monday to fill the unexpired term of Bill LeMaster, who resigned in December for personal reasons.
O’Hara, 36, an accountant, will be sworn in at the board’s next meeting, at 6 p.m. March 10 at the Gael Stuart Building, 1620 Blaine St.
O’Hara was one of two applicants for the position.
Both he and the other candidate, Anji Scalf, were interviewed in separate half-hour sessions Monday, followed by a 45-minute executive session.
Upon returning, board member Anne Burkart made the motion to hire O’Hara, which was supported unanimously by the other board members, Holley Carlson, Pam Daly and Jennifer James-Wilson.
After the meeting, O’Hara said his financial experience would be a benefit to the board.
He also said he was the only board member with school-age children, which would bring a unique perspective to the board.
