Former Vice President Al Gore will speak Friday at a sold-out banquet honoring the North Olympic Peninsula’s congressman, Rep. Norm Dicks.
The banquet at the Sheraton Tacoma will keynote the three-day Democratic state convention that will be held in the hotel complex.
Democratic delegates will approve a platform, elect delegates to the national convention and plan for this fall’s election, said state Democratic Party spokeswoman Kirstin Brost.
Dicks and Gore are old friends as well as political allies, dating back to 1977 when they were both freshmen in the House of Representatives.
Dicks is expected to run for a 14th two-year term as the 6th District congressman this fall.
