PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County commissioners approved an extension on the purchase and sale agreement closing date for property for an Olympic Community Action Programs housing project.
Olympic Community Action Programs (OlyCAP) is leading the effort to build a $14.5 million, 44-unit complex at the corner of Seventh and Hendricks streets on county property.
The project has been delayed due to OlyCAP not being approved for state funding to assist with building the facility.
The extension moved the closing date from Sept. 1, 2020, to Sept. 1, 2021, and the amended contract was approved during the commissioner’s Monday meeting.
OlyCAP was wait-listed for the state’s low-income housing tax credits program in spring and the organization is planning to reapply during the next funding cycle, which would’ve been past the original closing deadline of Sept. 1, said Mark McCauley, county central services director.
The extension was approved unanimously with little discussion by the commissioners.
The original agreement was approved by the commissioners in September 2019.
