Olympic Corrections Center comes off lockdown; search continues for escapee

FORKS — While searchers continued to look for a prison escapee, Olympic Corrections Center returned to normal operations Tuesday after being on lockdown since Saturday night’s escape.

The prison search team continued to look for Darby R. Maguire, 27, a 6-foot-tall white male with brown eyes and short brown hair, on Tuesday, said Chad Lewis, state Department of Corrections spokesman.

Missing at check-in

The staff at the minimum-security prison near Forks realized Maguire was missing during a check-in at about 8:20 p.m. Saturday.

The prison was placed on lockdown while a search was initiated.

The search team members are from nearby Clallam Bay Corrections Center and Stafford Creek Corrections Center and local law enforcement.

No new leads were reported Tuesday.

Searchers have posted notifications across the community, including campsites, businesses and transit stations.

Anyone who sees a man who matches Maquire’s description should phone 9-1-1, Lewis said.

Transfer

Maguire arrived at the work camp Aug. 1 when he was transferred from Washington Corrections Center near Shelton.

He began his prison sentence in January 2010. He was scheduled to complete his sentence in July 2014.

He could face an additional prison sentence if he is convicted of an escape.

Olympic Corrections Center houses about 375 offenders. Only offenders who are within four years of their release date are eligible for work camps, Lewis said.
