PORT ANGELES – Olympic Medical Center finally hooked a keeper Monday in its fishing for a contractor to remodel the Eighth Street clinic.
Unlike landing a salmon big enough for dinner, however, the hospital was trying to catch a contract under its limit.
OMC commissioners awarded a $1,028,931 contract to Hoch Construction Inc. of Port Angeles to bring the Olympic Medical Physicians Primary Care Clinic up to “hospital standards.”
The work – most of it re-roofing the building at 433 E. Eighth St. and revamping its heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system – is expected to take 24 weeks.
The third time proved the charm for OMC, which had started with a $780,000 bid ceiling that commissioners set late in May.
A month later, all responding contractors exceeded that limit, so commissioners raised the ceiling to $1,053,000.
Early this month, only one company bid on the work and, again, overshot the mark. Commissioners leapfrogged the limit to $1.19 million, which all three of Monday’s bidders stayed within.
