SEQUIM — Olympic Medical Center will open a new sleep center in Sequim on Monday, hospital officials announced.
The center is located at the Sequim medical plaza, 840 N. Fifth Ave.
OMC previously had a sleep test lab at the Port Angeles hospital and a sleep clinic in Sequim.
The services were consolidated under the direction of Dr. Michael McDonald, who was hired in May 2012 to revive OMC’s sleep medicine program.
“We’ve been talking about this for at least 10 years,” Chief Executive Officer Eric Lewis told commissioners Wednesday.
“We had the sleep center here at the hospital, and moving it to Sequim — the Sequim medical plaza — has been a long goal. It’s finally achieved.”
Lewis said the new sleep center will open “very precious real estate” at the hospital.
He added that the new clinic is well-designed and “looks really good.”
“It’s a really Class A facility,” Lewis said.
Walk-in clinic
Meanwhile, the OMC walk-in clinic in Sequim, also at the medical plaza, is being expanded from four exam rooms to nine.
The expansion should be completed by the end of this month.
The clinic opened in May 2012 to meet a growing demand in eastern Clallam County and ease pressure on the hospital’s emergency room.
“Clinic exam rooms are becoming a very precious commodity,” Lewis said.
“We simply don’t have enough. As we expand with health care reform coming up, we’re looking for more exam rooms.”
The walk-in clinic is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
