OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Despite two days of continuous water drops by aircraft the Griff fire continues to get bigger, especially on its western confinement line.
The 365-acre fire is expected to continue to grow because of forecast warm and dry conditions, park spokeswoman Barb Maynes said Wednesday night.
Park officials said $105,000 has been spent trying to slow the growth of the fire.
Beginning this morning two helicopters will bombard the stubborn blaze with thousands of gallons of water trying to slow its growth.
The fire has wrapped itself around Griff Peak, east of the Elwha Ranger Station, with the bulk of smoke billowing from the peak’s southwestern flank.
