OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Two small fires started by lightning high above the Elwha Valley Saturday afternoon continued to burn Monday.
The fires are located in steep terrain, preventing firefighters from fully reaching the areas, Olympic National Park spokeswoman Barb Maynes said Monday.
Because the fires are located deep within the park’s wilderness, neither posed a risk to park facilities or popular visitor destinations, she said.
The larger of the fires, the Elwha-Buck fire, was contained to about an acre on a ridge between Godkin and Buckinghouse creeks, south of Camp Wilder on the Elwha River trail, Maynes said.
