PORT ANGELES — The remnants of the former Elwha Resort along U.S. Highway 101 west of here will come down early next year as part of the overall site restoration by the National Park Service.
The former resort was destroyed in September 2001 in a suspected arson as park officials studied its future.
Demolition of the remaining structures will begin in January, when hazardous materials such as asbestos and lead-based paints will be removed. Then the buildings will be dismantled and removed.
