OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Officials are now estimating $1 million to $1.5 million will be needed to repair damage to trails and bridges caused by heavy rains and flooding that drenched the 922,651-acre park in October.
Park spokeswoman Barb Maynes said she expects the damage figures to continue to rise.
Original estimates, made shortly after the flooding, listed the damage at less than $500,000.
They have now nearly tripled.
“The cost figures could rise,” she said.
“We still have reports coming in, and some areas have not been accessed.”
Maynes said some National Park Service emergency funding for trail repairs is available, and park officials are pursuing the money.
If special funding is not secured, repairs will be made as money becomes available in the park’s budget, Maynes said.
