A backpack was fished out of the Quinault River east fork on Wednesday after several people said they saw a female hiker fall into the rain-swollen river.
“A call came into the Quinault Ranger Station about 3 p.m. on Wednesday saying a woman had fallen into the river,” said Barb Maynes, spokeswoman for Olympic National Park.
Maynes said the callers had not seen the unidentified woman since she entered the river. They said they thought the backpack was hers.
Maynes said several rangers were hiking 16 miles to the site of the report, downstream from Enchanted Valley.
