Newly fallen snows in the Olympic Mountains will put the road to Hurricane Ridge “in limbo” for a few more weeks, an Olympic National Park official says.
“The road is closed at the entrance station because of black ice and snow farther up the road,” park spokeswoman Barb Maynes said.
“It’s not early this year. This is the way things always go — the combination of staffing and weather.
“In other years, somewhere around this time of year, the road begins closing from dark to 9 a.m. because of the weather conditions,” she said.
Weekend road crews aren’t available right now, even though that’s when most people want to visit the Ridge, Maynes said.
