OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — The one-tenth-mile Madison Falls Trail in Olympic National Park’s Elwha Valley will close to public entry for three weeks beginning Monday.
Park trail crews and volunteers will construct a new rock retaining wall, install new railings, improve the trail surface and replant some of the area.
This project, along with several others, is made possible through a $50,000 grant from the state’s National Park Fund, which was awarded earlier this year, the park said.
“We are very grateful to the Washington’s National Park Fund for their support of trails in Olympic National Park,” said Olympic National Park Superintendent Sarah Creachbaum.
“The Madison Falls Trail is one of the most popular and accessible trails in the park – this project allows us to provide continued access for visitors of all mobility levels.”
The Madison Falls Trail is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.
It culminates in views of the 60-foot Madison Falls.
The small picnic area and accessible restroom located at the Madison Falls Trailhead will remain open during the work.
Restrooms and short walking trails are also available in and around the Elwha Campground, located a short distance away within the park.
