PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Wood Products sawmill located west of here will close indefinitely sometime this fall.
“We are looking at about three weeks for the big announcement,” mill manager Tad Price said Thursday.
The closure will mean the loss of jobs for 17 employees, including Price.
Parent company Takeuchi Lumber Co., Ltd., of Nagoya, Japan, informed Price on Sunday of the planned closure of all its American-based companies.
Those include Olympic Wood Products, a Shelton sawmill and a dry-kiln facility in Spanaway, employing nearly 100 people in all.
The Port Angeles sawmill, located in the Eclipse Industrial Park, will continue normal operations until sometime this fall, Price said.
It isn’t know yet how long the closure will last, or if the sawmill will reopen, he said.
