One sent to hospital after Paradise Bay house fire

PORT LUDLOW — One person was sent to Jefferson Healthcare hospital after an early morning fire destroyed a house at Paradise Bay and Boat Drive, according to a news release from East Jefferson Fire and Rescue.

Several neighbors called 9-1-1 about 2:30 a.m. Monday to report a large column of smoke and flames, the release stated. The occupants had smelled smoke and evacuated to a neighbor’s home.

Firefighters responded and immediately began keeping the fire from spreading to nearby structures, according to the release. As part of standard post-fire procedure, Jefferson County’s fire marshal and building official were notified.

Three fire engines, a water tender and a medical unit responded along with a total of 19 personnel from several nearby agencies, such as Navy Region North West from Indian Island, which covered fire district vacancies during the incident, the release stated.

Jefferson County Public Utilities District No. 1 personnel also secured the utility lines, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office provided use of its drone.
