Online meetings set for fire district levy lid lift

PORT ANGELES — Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue will host informational meetings to discuss its levy lid lift, listed as Proposition 1 on the Nov. 5 general election ballot, at 6 p.m. Monday and Oct. 28.

Each meeting will begin with a short presentation regarding the request followed by a Q&A session with fire district staff.

To join the online meetings, visit https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88192956217?pwd=bLRF1GV22QHceoTphHNcTbcmTi1RZR.1.

The district is requesting to increase the levy from 96 cents to $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The levy, if approved, would result in an additional $216 per year, $18 per month, in property tax on a home valued at $400,000.

Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue provides fire suppression and emergency medical services to 9,500 people spread out over 85 square miles outside the city of Port Angeles, including Deer Park, Gales Addition, Mt. Pleasant, Black Diamond, Dry Creek and Lake Sutherland as well as the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.

Its nine full-time and 35 volunteer firefighter/paramedics/EMTs respond to an average of 1,900 emergency calls per year.
