Operator of Quilcene Bay marina wants out of contract with Port of Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Possible repairs to two storm-damaged docks at Herb Beck Marina on Quilcene Bay and a possible replacement for a departing Quilcene marina employee are expected to be discussed at a Port of Port Townsend commissioners meeting today.

Port commissioners will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the port’s administrative offices on Benedict Street.

Larry Crockett, port executive director, said Ken Dressler, who has been contracted for at least seven years to operate the Quilcene marina, has asked that he be let out of his contract effective May 1.

“This is a bit of an emergency,” said Crockett, and commissioners were scheduled to talk about the port’s options.

“We may have to pull someone in to keep the operation going, or decide if we need to hire someone else.”

No action was expected, said Crockett, just discussion.

Port commissioners and officials also are scheduled to discuss contract bids on repairs proposed for two docks damaged during heavy winds last winter.
