PORT TOWNSEND – With the city’s 2006 lodging tax revenues up nearly 2 percent over last year’s, those close to the industry see that as a positive sign.
That during uncertain economic times, left in the wake of the post-9/11 era and higher gas prices.
“We’re holding our own,” said Tim Caldwell, Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce general manager, who also cites the limited transportation to the city literally at the end of state Highway 20 on the Quimper Peninsula.
As an alternative to the state ferries, Hood Canal Bridge and sometimes traffic-glutted two-lane highways leading to Port Townsend, Caldwell is the chief proponent of launching passenger ferry service between Port Townsend and Seattle as another visitor transportation alternative.
