BEAVER — The 15th annual Lake Pleasant Polar Bear Plunge will be at 10 a.m. Friday, New Year’s Day.
The news was posted on Facebook on Thursday. Efforts to reach organizers on Wednesday were fruitless.
The plunge appears to be the only organized New Year’s Day dip on the North Olympic Peninsula.
Dan Weldon, organizer of the annual Polar Bear Dip at Hollywood Beach, said Wednesday there will be no organized plunge on New Year’s Day, breaking a 33-year tradition.
The double-threat of COVID-19 and a recent sewage overflow into Port Angeles Harbor jettisoned any plans that might have been made, he said.
However, he knows of people planning to do independent plunges, starting at about 9:30 a.m. or 10 a.m. Friday morning.
Efforts to reach organizers of the annual plunge at Nordland General Store on Marrowstone Island, which was held at noon in the past, also were to no avail.
The store experienced a devastating fire in November.
