Oscar galas to bring sparkle to Port Angeles, Port Townsend next weekend

Reservations must be made by Wednesday for an Oscar gala in Port Townsend, while tickets for Port Angeles’ “Hollywood Nights” are still available.

Both galas, centered around the live broadcast of the Academy Awards, will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22.

Lindsay Wagner, an actress best known for her role in the 1970s TV series “The Bionic Woman,” will preside over the Port Angeles celebration in the Masonic Temple at Seventh and Lincoln streets.

Port Townsend’s “2009 Oscar Night of Your Life” will be at the The Bartlett House, 314 Polk St., in Port Townsend.

Port Angeles

Those attending the Port Angeles event, which will benefit the Olympic Medical Center Foundation, will walk into the building on a Hollywood-style red carpet.

The gala will offer a buffet dinner and a live telecast of the Oscars beginning at 5 p.m. on large, 12-foot screens.

It also will feature a “Guess the Winners” contest, with entrants who pick the most winners in selected Oscar categories winning prizes, and a “Dress as Your Favorite Movie Star or Character” contest, with prizes for the winners.

Tickets are $60 and are available at Necessities and Temptations gift shop at the corner of Laurel and Railroad Avenue in downtown Port Angeles.

First Federal is the presenting sponsor.

Wagner, 59, lives in the Los Angeles area but owns a vacation home in Sequim. She has starred in 40 made-for-TV movies, five TV mini-series, 10 feature films, three TV series and several specials and documentaries.

Port Townsend

The Port Townsend gala, a fundraiser for the Port Townsend Film Festival, will feature champagne, buffet food and the Academy Awards on big-screen TVs.

The menu will include bagels and lox, oysters on the half-shell, seafood lasagna, sushi, vegetarian options, “Katherine Hepburn brownies” and “President Barack Obama’s favorite candy.”

Those attending are invited to “dress like a star,” or “wear PJs and watch others dress like a star.”

Tickets are $50.
