PENINSULA DAILY NEWS
Outdoor burning has been banned statewide by the state Department of Ecology and Olympic Peninsula residents are being asked to voluntarily stop indoor burning, such as woodstoves.
Ecology officials issued the ban on outdoor burning Wednesday until further notice due to elevated air-pollution levels caused by current weather patterns.
In addition, the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency asked citizens to voluntarily stop indoor burning activities.
“Air quality in the greater Olympic Peninsula has deteriorated significantly in the last 24 hours,”‘ an agency news release said.
The regional clean air agency serving Clallam Jefferson, Grays Harbor, Mason, Pacific and Thurston counties recommends residents avoid using woodstoves or fireplaces; carpool to reduce air pollution from vehicles and telecommuting to work if possible.
